WALES Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS)

Date posted: 22 September 2025

Basic Payment is to remain available in 2026 although it is now being phased out. In 2026 we expect the payment to be 60% of the 2025 rate.

Similarly, offered as an area payment but with the universal layer of commitments, the new SFS will require the claimant to have management control of the claimed land for at least 10 months of the calendar year.

As well as ordinary compliance and the new Universal Code, farmers will also be expected to record soil tests on RPW Online, record an annual Integrated Pest Management (IPM) assessment, undertake benchmarking, do 6 hours of CPD, ensure the delivery of any temporary habitats, have a plan for any SSSIs, prepare a Tree and Hedgerow Planting Opportunity Plan on RPW Online, and declare having met the livestock welfare and biosecurity requirements.
